The Next Generation Multiplication Table (NGMT) seeks to invite young learners to play with and further make sense of single-digit multiplications using primarily the area (array) model and the tree (splitting) model. It also explains the visual models in verbal English. It is grounded in the key principles of model-centered learning and instruction (MCLI).
The NGMT app is developed by Dr. Lingguo Bu (lgbu@siu.edu) at SIUC using MIT App Inventor 2. All pictures are taken by the developer and shall not be used outside this app. Please give credit to Dr. Bu and the MIT team for their time and creative effort. Have fun and enjoy doing math as all children do naturally!
